After reading this on my friend Tammy's blog I knew exactly what my memory would be. Every time I think of the day that my Grandfather blessed Punkin it fills me with such joy. I want to cry and smile at the same time. The reason it makes me so happy is that it was one of the last times that I saw my Grandpa truly enjoy himself before he died. The only other time was at the 50Th Anniversary party we threw for my Grandparents the month before he passed. He had been diagnosed with Melanoma (skin cancer) spot on the top of his head just weeks before I found out I was (finally) pregnant with Punkin. So while he was going through the hell of cancer treatments I was experiencing morning sickness. We were the party animals at every family get together that sat on the couch feeling miserable. He by far had it much worse than I though. It meant so much to me to have him do the blessing because this was the one and only chance he would be able to bless any child since he and my grandma went through the temple. At one point he told me that he didn't think that he would be feeling up to do doing it and that we could have someone else do it. I just told him we would wait because I knew it was important to our family. So I think Punkin was about 4 months old when he said "I can do it now". He called me on a Wednesday night and we did it that Saturday at my Grandparents home. His windows of feeling well were really small so we jumped on it. I don't fully understand all the church stuff that goes with it and that doesn't matter to me as much as his chance to do it. I love that Punkin has this great connection with him even though she'll never really know him.

So if you feel compelled to answer this same question please do so on your blog and leave me a comment saying that you did so and I would love to check it out.

That is so neat that your grandpa could bless your first! Those types of experiences are priceless! It reminds me of spending Christmas with my grandparents 2 years ago and the next April my grandfather passed away. Oh, I can't believe her darling red hair?! I saw a facebook picture...did Dallas have red hair?
Man, I hope you don't think I'm blog stalking you or anything! :) Hey, I just wanted you to know that I left a memory on my blog.
What a heart touching story! I know that it meant the world to him to be able to bless her. I'm sure that this story will carry on for generations to come. God works in mysterious ways and helps us do good in our lives when we let him. I always thought Stacy would go through the temple with Cody. Even though he won't be with him physically, he will spiritually. I know more than anything that the gospel is true and the ordinances are too. Your Grandpa and daughter were blessed to share that special ordinance together. I love you guys and always want the best for you!
