Halloween 2010

So, this year our Halloween was a total whirlwind. Thursday the girls got to wear their costumes to daycare where they played games and got treats. Then that afternoon they wore their costumes to dance for another little party. They also got to learn the basics of the Thriller dance. There is nothing like watching 3-5 year olds try to do it like Michael.

Friday morning Punkin, my mom and I went to the hospital where Punkin was having an EKG done. She had her 5 year check up a couple weeks ago and her Dr. thought he heard a murmur so he just wanted to have it verified. He was concerned because most children grow out of murmurs by the time they reach 5, not develop them. We are still waiting on the results. That evening we had two of our nieces over and we tried to have a mini Halloween party so we made Halloween masks. I think they all really enjoyed it.

We have been so busy with work and life that we didn't even get our pumpkins until the day before the day before Halloween (you know, because we don't celebrate Halloween on Halloween around here.) And we only got three of the four carved. Punkin did draw her own face this year and she did a rather nice job. Peanut just scribbled and then wanted a cat with square eyes. I did my best. By the time I got to mine, I went for quick and simple. D won't touch pumpkin guts and he wasn't "in the mood" to carve so I was tired. Halloween evening we had planned to go to my parents house for chili and trick-or-treating. We had the chili but the pouring rain prevented the trick-or-treating. So we headed to the nursing home for some indoor trick or treating. It was a little weird but the kids and the residents seemed to enjoy it. I liked that it was dry. My Grandma really liked seeing all of the little kids in their costumes and it's always good to see her. We stayed for about an hour. It was impossible to do much visiting with Grandma because of the noise, but it was good to see her having such a nice time. When we got home we went out trick-or-treating around our cul-de-sac and across the street. All in all it was a pretty nice weekend.

Halloween 2009

This year was pretty busy for me. I've had a lot going on with work, and work, costume making, jewelry making (work), and normal every day stuff. I had a plan for Punkins costume a long time ago. I just waited until last Saturday to actually go get the supplies and do it. Note to self: never do that again. Luckily she already had some black leggings and black shirt. I found the hat at the dollar spot in Target (the best store ever). I was scrambling to find the socks to make leg warmers out of and searching every Joann's store between my home and Taylorsville for black tulle. I already had the ribbon for her waist and I picked up the shimmery green ribbon in some of my travels. Peanut was easy. She wore Punkins costume from her first Halloween. I'm so glad that Peanut is smaller than Punkin was at her age or I would've had to scramble for something for her too.
We started out at my parents house for dinner and went around the cul-de-sac there. I've known most of the neighbors there since I was a teenager so it was fun for them to see my kids. Both of the girls must have had a rough day because we had several melt downs while we waited to go trick-or-treating. Once we left, the house around the corner had a sign on the door saying they had no candy because they had the flu. I totally appreciated that. Afterwards we had some carmel apple and headed home.
When we got home D was waiting for us and had gotten the pumpkins out on the porch and lit and was handing out candy. He took Punkin out in our neighborhood and I stayed home this year.





We really had a nice Halloween. Once we got the girls to bed, we sat down to watch a movie and I fell asleep.

On a side note, for those who want to know. D and I are going to try to work things out in our marriage. I have thought about all of the negatives and positives of my decision and the positives far outweigh the negatives. I have never had any ill feeling towards him other than frustration and anger in the beginning of our separation. He has and is continuing to show more promise and commitment to our marriage. Obviously this isn't going to be easy. We have a lot of trust issues as you could probably assume. I question everything, except now he doesn't get defensive and he just answers, so that helps a lot. I think my girls deserve to have a family that stays together, but they also deserve an honest and sober father as well. He knows that this is it. No room for error. We are just hoping and working for the best.

Halloween 2008

We had a great time this year. I got to take Punkin for her first big Trick-or-Treat. She only got a little freaked out a couple of times, mostly by people's fire pits. Still not quite sure why she is so afraid of fire. She looked so cute in her fairy costume. Dallas stayed home with Peanut to hand out candy, I'm thinking I'll get that job next year.

Witch-a-palooza

Last night for our monthly girls night we went to Witch-a-palooza at Gardner Village. We went last year and it was then decided that it would be a yearly tradition. I've never really gotten into the Halloween spirit but after these shows I can't help it. Some people go decked out dressed as witches of course. They really like to get the audience involved as well. This year was hilarious. The story line was based on the Warlocks romantic past. It started back in the 1800's then all they way to the 90's. It was great, they sang songs from the 50's, 60's, etc. with a twist to the lyrics. The funniest is when they got to the eighties, a Madonna like witch came out with cones on her chest singing "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". For the 70's, they sang YMCA and got four of the whole ten men who were drug to the show by their wives to be the Village People. That was a riot. I highly recommend anyone to go next year but get your tickets quick because they sell out fast. Here are the pictures of our fun night.
