Garden Bloomed and Question Answered

I took a few pictures this afternoon of my Hibiscus. Thank you Devin for being my hand model to demonstrate the size of these magnificent blooms. Also, thanks Brooke and Elgin for identifying the weed that has taken over my garden. I looked it up on wikipedia and learned a few things here. It seems that I might have a plethora of Omega-3 fatty acids in my garden, but I'm not sure if I really want to take advantage of that.

Garden In Bloom: Week Twelve

IT BLOOMED!!! Yes people, the moment you've all be waiting for. The hibiscus bloomed. I have a few more coming out tomorrow morning. The blooms only last about a day, but I get about ten new ones everyday once it starts. They are the best, first thing in the morning, by the afternoon the heat has gotten to them and wilted them a bit. You'll notice that in the pictures. This first bloom isn't as big as what they have been before, I hope my rampant weed ground cover hasn't gotten to them too much. I have posted a picture also of the weed that is choking out my petunias and such, if anyone knows what the heck it is and what I can do to prevent it next year please let me know. We have seen it every year and it gets worse every year. Sadly, this will probably be the last Garden in Bloom post, because really, once you see this thing, you'll probably not care after that. I will post a pic when it's covered in the dinner plate sized blooms. Thanks for reading.

Garden In Bloom: Week Eleven

Good Monday! I did have some changes in the yard this week. The Hibiscus in the back yard bloomed, which means the one in front will soon follow suit. I don't know if it was the over abundance of rain and cooler weather through June that seems to have delayed the blooming of my favorite plant or what, but it will be totally worth it. The back hibiscus blooms are about fist sized. The two that I have are a really light (almost white) pink and a pretty girly pink. I'm not sure if the pink one will bloom this year as I moved it from the front to make room for the lilac.

Garden In Bloom: Week Ten

There really hasn't been much to share in the garden this week. Growth has slowed on the Hibiscus and there are some tiny buds forming. Cross your fingers and maybe we'll see some blooms in the next week or so. In other yard news, we have the sad excuse for a pond in the backyard that hasn't seen any progress since Week One but the liner has filled with water from rain and such. We had noticed early in the summer a Robins nest in the tree over the pond site. I noticed this weekend, sadly, a baby bird floating in the water. So what was once an exciting thing in the backyard is now kind of sad. My beautiful daylillies

Oh, little after thought. We have two new additions to the family this week. First, my cousin Ricci welcomed her first baby boy into the world at 7:24 this morning. We are so excited to meet baby Jack (sorry, no pics yet).
Next is my mom's new puppy Twinkie.........isn't she sweet?

Garden in Bloom: Week Nine

Yesterday I spent about an hour cleaning up some of the little demon weeds that are taking over my flower garden. I gave up rather quickly due to lack of motivation. I did however tie back the hibiscus that was starting to lean and trimmed off some of the lower stems. I must say it looks much better when it's not leaning. My daylillies bloomed this week and they are gorgeous.

Garden In Bloom: Week Six

I'm getting very excited for my Hibiscus to bloom, but I'm disappointed in my Petunias so far. They look healthy but they are not growing as fast as I think they should. I also snapped some photos of my orange Gerber daisy and purple -looks like a daisy but it's not and I can't remember the name-. Enjoy!
